Midsummer Day

by Frann Leach

Midsummer Day is one of the four quarter days used in England and Wales since the Middle Ages. The others are: Michaelmas (29 September), Christmas (25 December) and Lady Day (25 March).

Midsummer Day is not the same as Summer Solstice (which is sometimes called midsummer's day), the longest day of the year, which falls on or around 21st June in the Northern hemisphere and 21st December in the Southern hemisphere.
