The Easter Vigil is the period between sunset on Holy Saturday and Sunrise on Easter Day. In fundamentalist and evangelical churches, a prayer vigil is usually kept for the entire period. Some other churches hold special services. In Anglo Catholic and Roman Catholic churches it is the most important Mass of the year.
In some churches, it is the service when converts are baptised and when adult candidates are received into full communion within the Church.
