Feast of St Jude

by

Dates in Gregorian calendar last year, this year:
Feast of St Jude (Eastern Christian): Sunday, 19th June, 2011 , Tuesday, 19th June, 2012
(Western Christian): Friday, 28th October, 2011 , Sunday, 28th October, 2012

St Jude was one of the Twelve Apostles called by Jesus Christ to follow him. He is not the same person as Judas Iscariot (also one of the apostles), who betrayed Jesus to the Jewish authorities. It's not known whether St Jude was the Jude referred to as Jesus' brother. He is also known by other names, including Thaddeus, Jude of James, Jude (or Judas) Thaddaeus and Lebbaeus.

The Feast of St Jude is celebrated in Eastern Orthodox Churches, Eastern Catholic Churches, the Church of the East, Oriental Orthodox Churches, the Anglican Communion, Lutheranism, the Philippine Independent Church and strangely also by some in Islam. The dates of his feast vary. In eastern churches it is celebrated on June 19th and in the West on October 28th.
