The anniversary of Bonifacio's birthday is celebrated as Bonifacio Day (Araw ni Bonifacio) and is a public holiday in the Philippines.
Andrés Bonifacio y de Castro was born 30th November 1863 and died on 10th May 1897. He was one of the chief leaders of the revolutionary forces of the Philippines in their struggle against Spanish Colonial rule. The 1896 Philippine Revolution was the first revolution in Asia against any form of European colonial rule.
His role in Filipino history is controversial, and he failed to carry the senior people in the country with him following the revolution.
There are many monuments to Bonifacio across the nation. In current Filipino currency, Bonifacio is depicted on the 10-peso bill and 10-peso coin, along with fellow patriot and Aguinaldo man, Apolinario Mabini.
