Google

From the 4th to 17th of the 1st Month in the Chinese Lunar Calendar and again from the 29th of the 6th Lunar Month to the 15th of the 7th Lunar Month at Labrang Monastery near Xiahe in Gansu Province various, Buddhist activities such as sunning the picture of the Buddha, performing sorcerers' dances, chanting scriptures and ceremonial praying form part of ceremonies which many Buddhists attend.

The Labrang Monastery is one of the six major monasteries of the Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism and is the largest college for the teaching and training of lamas in the world.

Co-incidental with the ceremonies outlined above, the examinations for prospective monks are held at these times, and intense debates on Buddhist scriptures.

Many of the events and celebrations discussed on Which Day can best be enjoyed by visiting the country where they started. To find out more about visiting the destination of your dreams, visit Faraway Places Travel Guide.
