In Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, China, talented experts in calligraphy assemble each year to take part in a celebration of this ancient skill, which is much more associated with the Chinese language and writing than in Western cultures.
Following a large inauguration ceremony attended by senior figures, inscriptions will be written on a 100-meter-long scroll. The Chinese and Foreign Calligraphers' Association issue certificates of attendance to those who participate and the "four treasures" of the study (writing brush, ink slab, ink stick and paper) will be on display.
Tourists may visit the Forest of Steles, Jiucheng Palace and the ancient tombs at Shimen if they wish to have an extended visit.
